 I haz teh dumb.

I have read the article about ruffs three times.  (The one Kass had recommended some time ago finally showed up through ILL.)  I have sewn cartridge pleats before, so that is not the part I find, um challenging.  It's the part where the ruff is sewn to the band.  The raw edges of the ruff get completely encased by the band.  Several times the article references the "turning" and the extra stitching used to hold the turning down.  *ponders*  I just may not every "get it" until I get a chance to see one in person, or try making one myself.

Sometime after I get done stitching all the lace to the ruff.  La.

Are there no pictures? Because if it was just a description with no pictures, I don't think I'd get it either.

It's one of the reason I don't do well with long descriptions of clothing, or anything which is in acutality visual. There have to be images or I lose focus.

(although from your description, I think I know what it might be trying to say - kinda like the waistband? (http://peronel.info/petticoat.html))

There are pictures, but they are black and white, and I can't see the kind of detail she's describing. I'll bring the article to Holiday Faire so you can see what I am talking about. (Of course, I had been hoping to get at least the wrists done before by then, but we shall see...)

Is it similar to the way Isobel did her petticoats this summer?

Oh, that might be it! It never occurred to me that the pleats would actually go *into* the ruff band. I was thinking of how I had cartridge pleated my skirt, attaching a pleated finished edge to the bodice finished edge, ergo, nothing to bend, fold, hide, turn, whatever. Thanks!

I saw an advance copy of PoF4, and that seems to be how it was done on a few of their examples. With color photographs. In detail. *squee*

I actually had a chance to look at Sofia's copy at St Luke's this past weekend, but at the time I didn't know how badly I didn't know what I was doing! ;-)

My copy is on order!
