Evil school system.

One week's notice that the first graders are reenacting the first Thanksgiving as Pilgrims and Indians.

The children will make hats, and if the parents want they can send full costumes.

If?

IF??  Are you kidding?  Plymouth isn't THAT much out of period...  I would LOVE an excuse to make a little late period outfit for MT#1, and I even have some brown wool laying around.   

But not in one week.  *pouts*  Evil school system.

I went to Plimouth Plantation a couple of years ago -- it's a Living History site up in Massachusetts that runs year round. I totally wish I had a job like that.

Oh, SADNESS! That really sucks. I'm shocked that they didn't give you more notice than that - I mean, what if you want to go see the play? most places require a few weeks notice to take time off!

Well, the Evil School System(tm) doesn't expect you to make proper costumes. They expect you to cobble something together out of trash bags, old curtains, duct tape and staples.

If you did make a beautiful authentic costume for MT#1, next year they'd expect you to make costumes for everyone. Because it's not fair if one kid has a beautiful costume and the rest don't.

It's a shame you can't all show up as a properly-dressed pilgrim family :D

Or, you know, she could go as a Pilgrim. Be all English and stuffy and having 11 children.

One week! That's not fair!

My younger son's fourth grade teacher had them do a play based on Roanoke Island and Jamestown (he's now 11th grade). I dressed all the girls in the class by hemming up my garb.
My mother made a pilgrim dress for me in 4th or 5th grade out of an old sheet that she dyed grey (for Halloween). Gee. Maybe that's why I like late-period garb, ya think??
